Services for Althier Heller, 87, of St. James, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday morning, August 18, 2014, in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. James. The church is located at 315 9th Street South.
Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in rural St. James, located at Watonwan County Road #27 South.
Pastor Martin Lopahs will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, August 17, 2014, at Sturm Funeral Home-St. James, located at 906 10th Avenue South, as well as one hour prior to the start of the service at the church.
Althier Heller passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014, in St. James.
Althier Elaine Heller was born on May 9, 1927, near Darfur, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and Adella (King) Heller. She grew up in the Darfur area, attending school in Butterfield, Minnesota before moving to St. James when she was 16-years-old.
She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Darfur and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Butterfield and later joined St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. James.
Althier worked in St. James at a sheet metal shop, the Red & White Store and Ralph’s Super Value for 28years before her retirement. She also worked at the Watonwan County Library and Meals on Wheels for a time.
“Al” had a fabulous sense of humor and loved family and friends stopping by for coffee.
She is survived by her double cousin, Lester King of St. James; brother, Donald (Janice) Heller of St. James and several nieces and nephews.
Althier was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Curt, Woody, Cliff, Herbert and Leo and three sisters, Alice (Raynor) Johnson, Evelyn (Ed) Franz and Muriel (Wallace) Heldt.
