For major league baseball – and Mountain Lake Public Library’s all-star young readers
It was All-Star Game day for American and National League major league baseball players at Target Field in Minneapolis on Tuesday, July 15.
It was also All-Star Game day for Mountain Lake Public Library’s all-star young readers. A tradition in the library’s summer reading program schedule, game day featured Bingo and relay races, as well as ice cream sundae treats. This year’s summer reading theme was “Paws to Read.”
Below are some photos of the game day’s events:
MEESHA HOEK CONTEMPLATES the squares on her Bingo card.
THE FIRST LEG runners of the relay race teams take off.
THAT RELAY RACE featured a bubble gum bubble-blowing for time. Above, Kearney Wall does good work getting her piece of bubble gum into bubble-blowing form.
ANOTHER RELAY RACE was an egg-in-spoon lap – with a “spoon-off” of the egg into the spoon of the team member next in line. Lydia Cavanaugh has focus and s-t-e-a-d-y written all over her face.
ON HER RETURN trip, Lydia completes the egg trade from spoon-to-spoon to teammate Patrick Green.
SANDY SCHROEDER, LIBRARY assistant, scoops up the ice cream for the sundaes.
BUTTERSCOTCH TOPPING ON vanilla ice cream was looking mighty tempting to Thavien “Tido” Xayachak.
AS THE YOUNG readers enjoyed their ice cream sundaes, Carol Lehman, left, librarian at Mountain Lake Public Library, shared the tale of Smokey the Bear.
