Services for Dorothy Evelyn Firchau, 89, of Lewisville, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, July 22, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville.
Visitation is being held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight (Monday, July 21, 2014) at Zaharia Family Funeral and Cremation Service of Truman, Minnesota, as well as one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday morning.
Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Lewsiville.
Dorothy E. Firchau passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Madelia Community Hospital in Madelia, Minnesota.
She was born on June 11, 1925 in St. James, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Lena (Klutz) Williams and attended school in St. James.
On November 20, 1944, Dorothy was united in marriage to Reinhold Firchau at St. John’s Lutheran Parsonage-South Branch, rural St. James. She was a homemaker and babysat many kids in the Lewisville area.
Dorothy enjoyed sewing and quilting for Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid and her family, as well as making quilt tops for Zion. For many years she sewed bibs and pads for the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman. Dorothy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She was a lifetime member of the Lewisville American Legion Auxiliary and played in the Lewisville Kitchen Band.
Survivors include her children, Judy Goor of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Dennis (Dee) Firchau of Lewisville, Mary (Richard) Krenz of DeSmet, South Dakota, Jerry (Nancy) Firchau of Denton, Texas and Jean (Jeffrey) Hoppe of Truman; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a half-sister, Marilyn (Melvin)Fast (Melvin) of Butterfield, Minnesota.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Reinhold; one daughter, Joan Firchau; one son-in-law, Howard Goor and several brothers and sisters.
