Thunderstorms wash out Grande Parade, city park events

Beach party continues in the public auditorium, however

Thunderstorms washed out the 80th Mountain Lake Pow Wow Monday night Grande Parade as well as events in the Mountain Lake City Park – but the beach party with Bob & The Beachcombers carried on in the public school auditorium.

But, it was a indeed sad sight to see food booths, commercial booths and Midway rides shut down and zipped up tight. A few hardy folks did make it down to the park to seek out those food booths that stayed open for awhile.

However – the National Weather Service forecast for tomorrow calls for a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. And for Tuesday night, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before  4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

There is the opportunity for more Pow Wow tomorrow!

Here are five rainy day Pow Wow photos.

SORRY STAN AND Monica – or whomever placed these chairs in reserve for a prime spot for Pow Wow Grande Parade viewing – the thunderstorms forced the Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce to cancel the 3rd Avenue procession.

ACCUMULATED RAIN WATER flows off the plastic topping of the jerk chicken and ribs barbecue food booth, its cookers silent – at least for the moment.

THE POPCORN HAS to wait until Tuesday to be popped, and the other commercial and food booths will reopen.

EVEN THOUGH THE horses on the Merry-Go-Round are riderless, the dinosaurs are still and the Cheese Curds stand is shuttered, folks did come and go from Mountain Lake City Park in search of whatever was open.
