County office-holders running unopposed; races for two-of-three commissioner posts
Filings closed on Tuesday, June 3 for federal, state and county offices. The filing period for municipal and school district offices runs from Tuesday, July 29 until Tuesday, August 12.
In Cottonwood County, the incumbents in county offices have all refiled, and will be running unopposed. These include:
* County Auditor/Treasurer – Jan Johnson.
* County Recorder – Kathleen “Kathy” Kretsch.
* County Sheriff – Jason J. Purrington.
* County Attorney – Nick Anderson.
* Soil & Water Supervisor District 1 – Clark B. Lingbeek.
* Soil & Water Supervisor District 3 – Daryl Tasler.
There will be races in two of the three county commissioner positions up for election this year. In the Cottonwood County Fifth District, current longtime commissioner, John Oeltjenbruns, has elected not to run again, stepping down after serving as commissioner since 1993. There will be a two-man race to replace Oeltjenbruns, with both Randy Sawatzky and Tom Appel filing to become his replacement. The fifth district covers the City of Mountain Lake and Midway Township.
The other head-to-head contest will be in the county’s third district, where incumbent Tom White will be challenged by Donna Gravley.
In the first district, James Schmidt is running unopposed.
General election voting will be held Tuesday, November 4.
