TWO WINDOM/MOUNTAIN LAKE Cobra wrestlers made it to the podium at this past weekend’s Minnesota State Class A Wrestling Tourney, held in the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. At right, senior Vince Johnson of Mountain Lake was the 195 lb. runner-up, advancing with a win on Thursday, a pair of wins on Friday, a 4-3 semi-final victory earlier on Saturday, before dropping an 11-3 final to the two-time (now three-time) champ Nathan Rose of Sibley East. At left, Jared Willaby, a junior from Mountain Lake wrestling at 132 lb., received the bronze medal. Willaby won his opening match on Thursday, as well as his two Friday contests, to advance to the Saturday semi-finals. In that match, Willaby fell 3-1, but rebounded to win his next match 4-0 to move on to wrestle for third. In that thriller of a face-off, Willaby had a match to remember, winning 2-1 in 4 overtime periods. Other Cobras advancing to the state, but falling in the first round, were Wyatt Stevens at 113 lb. and Sam Fischenich at 120 lb. The two are from Windom.
