Funeral services for 83-year-old Marvin “Marv” Bottin of Windom will be held this Saturday afternoon, February 1, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Windom, located at 906 Prospect Avenue.
Visitation will be at LaCanne Funeral Home in Windom, located at 2280 6th Avenue, on Friday, January 31, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Marvin “Marv” Bottin was born on April 2, 1930, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota the son of the the late Edward and Pearl (Kramer) Bottin. At a very young age, Marv’s dad passed away. Shortly after his death, Pearl was united in marriage to Art Bottin and helped Pearl raise Marv and his brothers. Marv was baptized and confirmed at the Kimball Lutheran Church in Kimball Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. He received his education in the Mountain Lake Public Schools and then attended Concordia College in St. Paul for a year.
On August 26, 1950, he married Bonnie Amsden at the Jeffers Baptist Church in rural Jeffers, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, Mike, Brenda and Doug. After their marriage, Marv and Bonnie lived in rural Mountain Lake and then moved to the rural Comfrey, area where they farmed for many years. They then moved to rural Windom where Marv continued farming, was a weigh master at local sale barns in the area and was a bull/livestock hauler, along with being a “horse trader” until moving into Windom in 2010.
This past week, Marv became ill and was taken to the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he passed away on Monday morning, January 27, 2014, at the age of 83 years.
Marv was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom where he sang in the Men’s’ Chorus for many years. He also was a charter member of the Lion’s Club in Windom. Marv had many enjoyments in life including farm sales, camping, fishing, hunting, visiting and coffee, playing cards and cribbage – and most of all, spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren.
Marv is survived by his wife of 63 years Bonnie Bottin of Windom; three children, Mike (Sally) Bottin of Madelia; Brenda (Tom) Meyer of Butterfield and Doug (Staci) Bottin of Madelia; foster son Rick Ulven of Mankato; five grandchildren, Rob (Dana) Bottin, Brian (Melissa) Bottin, Emily (Dan) O’Connor, Daniel (Susan) Bottin, Amanda (Adam) Britton; two step-grandchildren, Monty and Haley; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Loretta Bottin, Arlene Carter and Loretta Amsden and many nieces and nephews.
Marv was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Ervin.
