Butterfield City Council makes 2014 appointments

Members decide to purchase remaining number of needed water meters – plus 6 more for back-up

The Butterfield City Council approved the 2014 city appointments at its first regular session of the new year on Monday, January 13. All council members were present, including Howard Madson, who attended via teleconference.

*Emergency Services Officers – Blane Braaten and Scott Linscheid

*Auditors – Burkhardt & Burkhardt, CPAs

*Legal Counsel – Steven Sunde

*Liquor Commissioner – Nick Mathistad

*Street Commissioner – Jim Warwick

*Sewer Commissioner – Doug Meyer

*Water Commissioner – Howard Madson

*Voss Park – Ken Pankratz and Howard Madson

*Weed Inspectors – Ken Pankratz and Tom Meyer

*Official Newspaper – St. James Plaindealer

*Official Depository – Triumph State Bank of Butterfield

*Council Regular Meeting Time – Second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

*Quorum – Three

*Special Meeting Notice Location Sites – Butterfield City Hall, Triumph State Bank of Butterfield and True Value Hardware Store of Butterfield

*City Hall Rental Rates – $200 deposit, $75 with kitchen and $50 without kitchen.

Water meter purchases approved

City Maintenance Manager Brandon Winch presented a quote of approximately $20,520 from Ferguson Waterworks for the purchase of the needed remaining water meters. Council members decided to purchase the necessary water meters, as well as six more for back-up.

Winch then told the council that he had received a quote for needed repairs on the city’s 2003 Chevy from Town’s Edge Auto of Mountain Lake. Members approved the truck repairs.

Discussion was then held on the purchase of rear wheel weights for the red tractor, but no decision was made.

In other business

* Heard from Butterfield Fire Chief Blane Braaten that Forstner Fire Repair will make the repairs to the department’s two pumper trucks for a portion of the cost.

* Braaten told the council that the department would like to host a dance during the Butterfield Summer Sizzler at the Tractor Pull site. Council members advised Braaten to also discuss this plan with the Butterfield Threshermen’s Association.

* Braaten also approached council members with a request to raise the pension for the department from $750 to $900 per year. Following discussion, the request was eventually tabled.

* Heard a “Thank-You” to the city from Scott Pankratz for allowing him to take EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) classes.

* Approved the December 2013 minutes.

* Approved the city’s financials and the payment of bills.

* Approved a City-Wide Clean-Up for 2014. Butterfield City Clerk Leslie Heffele was directed to contact Waste Management to set a date.
