2015 queen pageant on Friday evening kicks off 81st Pow Wow
The 2015 Miss and Little Miss Mountain Lake pageant theme shifted seasons, ushering in a “Winter Wonderland” in June.
Crowned as Miss Mountain Lake was Carmen Syverson, daughter of Steven and Kim Syverson. Joining her in the court are First Runner-Up Michaela Cate, daughter of Chad Pedersen and Melanie Pederson and Second Runner-Up Melissa Lohrenz, daughter of Brett Lohrenz and Lisa Lohrenz. Selected by her peers as Miss Congeniality was Melissa Lohrenz. The Talent Winner was Carmen Syverson.
Miss Mountain Lake received a $500 scholarship from the Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, First Runner-Up was awarded a $250 scholarship from the Chamber and Second Runner-Up was presented with a $150 scholarship from the Chamber. Miss Congeniality received $50 in cash from the Chamber, while the Talent Winner was presented $150 in cash from the Chamber.
Selected as Miss Mountain Lake was Thaila Sengchan.
The queen pageant, the kick-off event for this year’s 81st Pow Wow, which is sponsored by the Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and its members, was held last night (Friday evening, June 12) in the Mountain Lake Public School auditorium.
Nine candidates vied for the Miss Mountain Lake crown, with 10 Little Miss participants.
Additional Miss Mountain Lake candidates were Carly Paulson, sponsored by Nickel Construction; Signey Stoesz, sponsored by Triumph State Bank; Bailey Swanson, sponsored by Twister Timber Tree Stands; Alexis Ibarra-Alvarado, sponsored by Country Pride Cooperative; Michayla Stewart, sponsored by C & R Construction and Carly Fast, sponsored by Fast Motors. Queen Carmen was sponsored by Odin State Bank, First Runner-Up Michaela by Schwartz Farms and Second Runner-Up Melissa by Lohrenz Excavating Inc.
The remaining Little Miss candidates included Brie Anacker, Khya Boldt, Serinadee Eiynk, Elearnor Eken, Karla Hernandez, Alexus Lopez, Genesis Lopez, Aayla Radtke and Abby Sonnabend. The Little Miss candidates just completed second grade, and were escorted onstage by a contingent of second-grade boys.
All Miss and Little Miss candidates will appear in the Monday night, June 16 Pow Wow Grande Parade.
Serving as pageant hosts were Mitchell and Erica Schroeder.
Judging for Miss Mountain Lake is done through personal interview, sportswear dance, talent and poise and appearance.
Miss Mountain Lake pageant directors were Alisa Nickel and Jami Peters.
The Little Miss is determined by the drawing of the winning name. Jami Peters and Sarah Mendoza handled the duties coordinating the Little Miss contestants.
Presenting farewells were members of the 2014 Miss Mountain Lake Royal Court, including Little Miss Kaila Blom, Miss Mountain Lake Jenny Wright, First Runner-Up Melanie Adrian and Second Runner-Up Lydia Hildebrandt.
